i remember as a kid, i was reading the dictionary
yes reading the dictionary like a story book
and i would always have a little book beside me to make notes of words i found interesting
and i did have a collection
but i lost them,
through time, i slowly forgotten those words
but one word i found, i never forget
i couldn’t really forget that word
momento mori
i read the meaning and i loved it somehow
i tried to use it in essays
never got the chance to
finally a blog post that revolves around this one special word i found
in a dictionary
“Memento mori is a Latin phrase translated as "Remember your mortality", "Remember you must die" or "Remember you will die"It names a genre of artistic work which varies widely, but which all share the same purpose: to remind people of their own mortality. The phrase has a tradition in art that dates back to antiquity.”

the death of a friend, a collegue
that somehow reminded me of this word and its meaning
the dead may be weak and unable to do what we can
but in those final moments, they can do something none of us can while alive
they can make everyone they know think of all the memories they once shared
they bring people together
they allow a way for closure, to heal the wounds that cut deep
tears, mourning. they all help
but the final act of the dead, reminds us that they are around us
they linger barely in our presence
the wrongs they did
forgotten
the happy times
cried over
they move on
we stay behind and heal
as time passes, we tend to smile at the happy times once more
the loss of a friend
the loss of a loved one
the loss of a living this you share a deep connection with
suddenly ripped out and you bleed yourself empty
maybe if we all had a habit of remembering that death is coming our way
everyday he comes closer
maybe we can treat death like an old friend, ever so familiar
getting closer
removing us from the pains and disease of a rotting body
then maybe, just maybe
death will seem less painful
missing you would be less heartbreaking
maybe deep down, we never want to discover the word
maybe deep down inside, we keep busy to forget the inevitable
maybe deep down inside, we want to forget
the pain
the loss
the tears
the darker side
the loss of life’s lemons
